Mission

The Midwest Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center has the long-term goals of improving the health and well-being of Hispanics/Latinos and other underserved populations locally and nationally.

The Midwest Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center works to accomplish these goals by:

  • Conducting community-based participatory research into diabetes, cardiovascular disease, other chronic diseases and their risk factors (obesity, access to healthy food and physical activity) in Latino and other underserved communities to (1) inform curricula development, (2) support community mobilization, and (3) inform policy change efforts.
  • Increasing health literacy at the community level through peer education in order to reduce the incidence of diabetes and cardiovascular disease and their risk factors in the Latino and other underserved communities.
