Who We Are

The UIC Midwest Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center (MLHRTPC) at the Jane Addams College of Social Work (JACSW) was founded in April 1993, under the leadership of Aida L. Giachello, PhD, in partnership with the UIC College of Medicine’s Hispanic Center of Excellence and the UIC School of Public Health.

Since its inception, MLHRTPC has developed the infrastructure to conduct studies in health and social disparities, training programs, and policy work. Its research on health disparities has targeted areas related to minority population health including chronic illnesses, injury prevention, and maternal and child health.

MLHRTPC has developed education models that are used nationally. MLHRTPC conducts local and national trainings for community health workers and health and human service providers aimed at increasing their capacity to address health disparities and facilitating chronic disease prevention and management.
